CAKE!!!

4. Describe your favorite experience, situation, place, or recollection from either of your Drifts. Be specific about what happened, how you felt, how you reacted, and why you think this particular experience affected you so much

**Drift 2 was a lot of fun. Walking through stores with two cameras just snapping pictures was a real experience. It was interesting to see how people respond to artists out in the world. At first I felt a little awkward taking all my shots and was afraid that some one who worked in these places would tell me to leave but no did (yet!haha). I loved going from complete nature to wandering inside a store and being bombarded with people and things. So much of our world is constantly being pushed to buy more, have more, need more when really so much happiness lies in the simplicity of life and nature. Going from one extreme to another is really astonishing.

There's More?

3. Describe three surprises or unexpected situations you encountered on your Drifts and in the days that followed. The surprise could stem from your expectations that conflicted with "on the ground" realities, cultural or social issues of which you were previously unaware, feelings and reactions that you did not expect to have, appearances and soundings of things you did not expect, good or bad outcomes of "on the spot" decisions you had to make, or the discovery of "deeper" realities in the materials you brought home. (Again, skip anything technology-related!)

**Wow. I think one of the biggest surprises I've had is how different material seems later. While your out and about things seem different, often they appear to have more potential but when in editing I found stuff I have overlooked suddenly became my stronger material that I loved to work with. I also found that there's so much in the world to capture it's mind boggling. I've bounced between nature and man made objects only to find as opposite as these things are they mesh so well.

2. Describe, with details, two situations during Drift 1 and/or 2 in which you felt unusually peaceful, at ease, or contemplative.

**For Drift 2 I decided to bring a friend along with me, and as we walked and talked (and I filmed) I felt so natural just doing my thing. Maybe it was because I didn't feel so alienated and alone as I did on my first drift or possibly it was the area I was more familiar with. It seemed though talking to someone about life, being wild and free, and I worked not only helped my work to be better but also made me feel better about the work I was doing, I didn't feel awkward or forced to create something, I just let myself flow and do what felt most natural to me. I also found being surrounded by "cooperate America" as so to say made me think of how people have "grown" from living off of the land to practically destroying and forgetting the land and all it's natural beauty. I also end up getting caught up in this materialistic world and yet try to keep in my mind how natural my body is and how connected I can be with the natural world...if I try.

Ask Me!!

Describe two situations that aggravated, bothered, shocked or otherwise stressed you during Drift 1 or 2. (Please note that the situation CANNOT be technology-related.)

**hmm, weather is certainly key. I can't function well in cold because my temperature changes so quickly and it's so hard to keep myself warm enough to function well. In Drift 1 I had a really hard time walking around feeling frozen and keeping my mind on listening to hear interesting and unique sounds. I had to create my own sounds to help speed up the walk because all I could think about is how frozen I felt. I was afraid too, that being so bundled was going to get in the way of all the things I had to carry. Possibly another situation that shocked me was the fact the some of the things I pushed in order to finish ended up being my better stuff. I threw around rocks for my sound Drift so I could find indoors faster and that became my favorite sound piece and my best. Sometime the things we do in utter desperation come out to be the best. weird right?
